We are family
By: Web Editor
Over the years I’ve attended many funerals and seen many sights. But the respect shown to a fellow scooter club member at his recent funeral brought home to me just how close-knit and passionate scooterists can be.
The sight of a fairly well-known and boisterous scooter club (who I’m more used to seeing drinking and ‘larging it up’ at rallies), all standing up and loudly singing along to the deceased’s favourite Specials record as he departed into the depth of the crematorium confines was moving to say the least. To these guys, he was more than just a club member; he was part of their family and would be sorely missed.
We all become very passionate about various things in our life, but scooterists are in a league of their own. It’s something that people outside our scooter community find very difficult to understand, but it’s part of what makes our scene what it is. It’s fairly unique and I can’t think of any other group of individuals that embrace their culture or lifestyle with such a passion. Where else would you find a stranger willing to lend you their scooter because yours has broken down and you can’t get where you are going? Where else do you meet somebody for the first time on the road and then ride to a rally with them like long-lost friends? Where else do you passionately argue with someone to the point of falling out about what scooter is the best – and then spend the rest of the evening buying each other drinks. The scooterist scene is a tight knit community; we are one – we are family!
