Volunteer rally
By: Mau Spencer
Some gourmet chefs are fascinated by motorcycles as well. But while Horst Lichter’s motorcycle collection fills an entire hall, Germany’s young chefs have apparently also acquired a taste for motorbikes. One of them is Nelson Müller, an up-and-coming celebrity cook who is known throughout Germany from his many TV cooking shows, and who is now learning to obtain his motorcycle driving licence. Müller’s new hobby is of course also taking him to Intermot Cologne, the international trade fair for motorcycles and scooters, which will take place in Cologne from 6-10 October 2010.
However, Nelson Müller will do more than just visit Intermot Cologne, as he is also co-operating with German TV host Markus Schultze to develop an unusual idea for a good cause: the Nelson Müller Charity Ride 2010.
Schultze, who has been hosting a video portal for beginning motorcycle riders since 2007, has been given the task of motivating at least 500 bikers to accompany him to Intermot Cologne along an approximately 400km route. Once the participants reach their destination, they will be able to enjoy Müller’s legendary gourmet biker sausage, which the star chef will personally serve for a good cause. The catch is that to eat the delicious treat, participants will be charged one euro cent per cm3 of their motorcycle’s displacement. The proceeds will be donated to the organisation Canchanabury.
Canchanabury has been helping people in the world’s poorest regions since 1961. It especially cares for individuals who are ostracised from society because they suffer from leprosy or aids. Since 1992, Canchanabury has been able to use the 'donation seal' of the German Central Institute for Social Issues (DZI) in Berlin. Anyone interested in taking part in the Nelson Müller Charity Ride should directly contact Markus Schultze at his Facebook site (www.facebook.com/markus.schultze). There is also a blog site containing all of the relevant information (www.nelsons-charityride.de). Nelson Müller and the bikers are expected to arrive in Cologne on 6 October 2010.
