Sun, Sea and Ska
By: Web Editor
That’s what was promised for the Folkestone Skabour Festival on 3-5 September. Clashing with the established Mersea Island Scooter Rally, this event almost slipped under the radar – which is a pity because it was a well-organised event.
Commencing on the Friday afternoon Ska aficionados were treated to a delight of Ska-related activities, beginning with a 2-Tone Exhibition and special appearances (and performances) by well-known figures within the Ska movement. Saturday’s schedule began with an early morning rideout by local scooter clubs, which returned two hours later to the harbour where revellers were treated to a variety of stalls plus free musical entertainment on the main stage. In the evening, proceedings continued and Ska music could be heard at various locations around the town.
For those yearning for more, the music continued on Sunday, providing the audience with a fantastic weekend of events. Billed this year, in the main, as a free event, the organisers hope to develop the weekend into an annual homage to all things Ska.
