Scooterist Adventures: To Delhi by Tuk Tuk
By: Web Editor
How many scooterists fancy taking on a 5000 mile road trip through Europe and part of the Middle East to Delhi, India on a Vespa or Lambretta?

Not many hands going up then? Well Lisa Gibson and Anna Hagens are two brave ladies from Lincoln who will be taking-on this very challenge to help raise funds for Indian charity Asha, who work with children in the slums of New Delhi.
Their target is to raise £30,000 and hopefully create life changing opportunities, enabling children to get an education and even the chance to go to college. Their chosen transport is a three-wheel Tuk Tuk rickshaw with the amazing top speed of 39mph (well downhill maybe). With a backup team at the end of a phone and support from friends and family along the way, the journey will take around six weeks. The trip commences early July and arrives in Delhi in mid-August.
The adventure’s promotional launch evening took place at the Drill Hall, Lincoln on 25 January with a ‘taste of India’ theme for guests arriving early and followed by a children’s school troop of Bollywood dancers. Speaker Simon Chegwyn talked about his journey along the very same route on a motorcycle and shared some of the experiences he encountered on the way. This was followed by an insight into some of the work that Asha is involved in Delhi. The speech was delivered by Freddie Martin, who said he was very proud of what Anna and Lisa are prepared to take on. An auction and live band ‘The Soul Solution’ helped jump-start the fundraising with over £1350 collected on the night – a brilliant start – although a major trip sponsor is still being sought.
Lisa said: “Anna and I have both been out to Delhi and been massively impacted by the brilliant work that Asha is doing among those who live in slum communities. The children in the area where Asha works are in school, have good health care and have been given hope for the future that they could only have dreamed about without the help of the charity. It’s a huge privilege to support this work and raise its profile with the Tuk Tuk Tour”.
