Prescot Scooter and Motorcycle Show

I was contacted by Dave Griffiths from Prescot Museum (part of the Knowsley Arts and Heritage Service) with regards to putting on a classic scooter and bike event.

Prescot Scooter and Motorcycle Show

After discussions with Garry (our club chairman) I was given the go ahead to liaise with Dave to sort the event out. We secured the Deanes House (our club meeting place) as the venue following discussions with the landlady Helen, who kindly allowed us to use their car park.

Then we contacted local scooter clubs to see if they would put club displays on for us and received a good response. Dave Griffiths also arranged for local bike clubs to attend as he is a classic bike fan. Trophies were arranged with our own club (A57 SC) sponsoring ‘Best Scooter’ and ‘Best Scooter Club Display’. Prescot Museum sponsored ‘Best Bike’ and ‘Best Bike Club Display’ and the Deanes House sponsored a ‘Landladies’ Choice’ of best scooter and best bike. Help For Heroes were contacted to see if they would put a display on for us and Dai Ransom (the Major) came up trumps for us; cheers! Unfortunately, due to clashing with Wicksteed Parts Fair we couldn’t get any dealers to attend.

On 3 October, the day of the event, we were met with rain of biblical proportions, but were humbled by the amount of local scooter and bike clubs as well as individual riders who braved the rain to support us. Anyone wanting to dodge the rain was able to spend time in the pub where our resident club DJ Ste, ably abetted by his partner Elaine, spun some great sounds. The rain did eventually clear after a couple of hours and everyone reported having enjoyed the event which we are hoping to put on again next year – but hopefully with better weather!

On behalf of the A57 SC and Prescot Museum, I would like to say a heartfelt thanks to all who helped to organise the event and especially to those who supported us.

Phil, A57 SC
