No apologies
By: Mau Spencer
The contents of this issue are tinged with sadness and I make no apology within these pages for mourning those who are no longer with us.
IOW Special inside this issue
Since the last issue, three well-known and popular scooterists have left this life for another world. I didn’t know Tony Woods personally, but knew of him. He was well-liked by all who met him.
Eric Tudor was someone I first met back in the 1990s; he was always helpful, friendly and willing to offer advice to anyone who needed it. Dave Jackson was not only a friend, but also a fellow club member and we rode together on many occasions. He also became a CSS ‘roving reporter’ as well as working alongside me at numerous charity events, including the Robert Sebbage Appeal.
The loss of three such popular scooterists in a short space of time is a tragic loss and they will all be dearly missed; their influences will stay in our memories for a long time to come. I’m sure you will all join with me in sending our sympathies to the families and friends of all three of these well-liked and respected, very individual scooterists.
All Wight mate!
With the Isle of Wight International Scooter Festival being the major event on the scooterist calendar, it should come as no surprise when I tell you that this issue of CSS has almost been taken over with coverage of that event. However, not being content with just telling you what went on at this year’s festivities, we have attempted to give you a bit of a history as to how this event actually came into being as the rally we know today. There is, however, a downside to all of this – and it’s that old magazine enemy of lack of space. Again I have to apologise for not including some of our regular features. We hope to resume normal service in the next issue.
Whoops!
Finally, there is one apology I would like to make. In the last issue we forgot to mention in the ‘Mayfair’ article, the advice given by Dick Sedgley, a well known Lambretta expert and mechanic, on the subject of the Lambretta LDA. Dick mentioned the faulty rear brake problem that this model tended to suffer from. We apologise for forgetting to credit him and would like to thank him for his input on the subject. We are eagerly looking forward to more gems from Dick when we review his proposed book which covers the subject of his lifetime romance with the Lambretta.
