I think I got away with it?
By: Web Editor
Like everyone else, I’m only human – and make errors. So when I had a momentary lapse of concentration recently, I was expecting to receive a letter from Mr Plod.
After participating in a local club rideout, I was happily making my way back home, but took a small detour through my local market town (I’d plenty of time and was enjoying the ride).
My path out of town took me up a slight rise and round a corner. Reaching the peak, I was too busy taking in the scenery and failed to observe that I’d drifted over the speed limit. My attention was grabbed by a police car parked, partially obscured, in the local graveyard and I wondered what was going on, I failed to notice three of our ‘boys in blue’ a little further up the road pointing a gun at me (a speed gun – I don’t think they take speeding seriously enough to shoot me with a real one)! Of course by then it was too late; I shut the throttle quickly while trying not to make it look too obvious what I was doing, but it was a bit like the swan scenario (you know what I mean: on the surface a swan looks cool, but underneath the water they are paddling like mad)! There was me trying to look cool and calm, while observing the speed limit, but underneath all that I’m covertly trying to slow down and panicking about bringing the situation under control.
I drifted past them, trying not to do anything that would aggravate the situation. There’s a 14 day notification of prosecution time limit for speeding offences and as we go to press, that’s just passed without anything dropping through my letterbox, so maybe I was lucky? I’ll let you know...
Happy reading!
