Forced legislation
By: Web Editor
Hi Mau, The legislators, or so it would appear, have been, for some years, trying to legislate the two wheeled powered ‘motorcycle’ off the road. For instance, the new rider entrance legislation has made it nigh on impossible for those not very focused to even start off as a novice.
Then there’s the insurance premium mountain to climb – £933 third party only for a 17-year-old on a Vespa PX 125, as an example (as quoted for an address in Basingstoke, Hants by Carole Nash insurance brokers).
At the same time all motorcyclists/scooterists have often been subjected to forced legislation. Those old enough will remember all the advertising and hand wringing over compulsory seat belt wearing in cars, but will have noted that legislation for compulsory helmet wearing for those on two wheels was introduced, at the stroke of a pen and at the behest of a government that failed to consult those so afflicted by these laws and advertised the fact even less. These legislators are not motorcyclists/scooterists and were voted into power by a minority, but do feel that they know best about a subject for which they know very little.
Here endeth the lesson...
