Bridlington Trade & Custom Show
By: Mau Spencer
Bridlington was the place to be on the last weekend of October. Not only does this national rally bring the main 2011 riding season to a close, but it’s also the venue where the main BSRA events for the next year are decided upon and announced. The festivities got underway as usual on the Friday night with the main venue – the Spa – playing host both to a live band and well known DJs spinning all the favourite sounds.
For those who didn’t over-indulge, the doors opened at 11am on Saturday for Britain’s longest running scooter only trade and custom show. Organised by the LCGB, this Saturday daytime event never disappoints and is always that place to see some stunning custom scooters for the first time. One of the main organisers, Simon Collins (aka Toot), said: “It was the best and most supported scooter custom show held by the LCGB in recent times, (in my humble opinion of course!), with 87 scooters in the main hall (not including the Lambretta fire engine), from 94 scooters initially entered. Of these, the Ridden scooter entries outnumbered the Custom entries by 2-to-1.
"The quality and effort to show the scooters entered had risen (again) from the previous year and there were 49 different winners of the various trophies sponsored by LCGB affiliated scooter clubs and various scooter dealers.
"Some useful feedback has already been received on this years show and for 2012 I'm already planning a few tweaks to the judging categories, including a couple of new trophy classes specifically for small frame Vespas and the Luna range of Lambrettas (Lui/Vega/Cometa).
"If any of your readers have any other feedback (constructive, or otherwise) I'd be more than happy to receive it, they can e-mail me on: oasc@btopenworld.com”.
As is the norm, the show winners were announced at the end of the afternoon, along with the dates for the 2012 BSRA national rallies. Then it was time for everyone to get themselves ready for the Saturday evening entertainment and again, the Spa, provided the venue, leading to many hangovers on the Sunday morning for that long (or short) journey homewards.
