Editor's Intro
More haste, less speed…
18 January 2012
Those editorial gremlins have been working their magic yet again, so firstly, I must apologise for an error that slipped through the net during our last hectic magazine deadline. I hold my hands up – it was me; I should have picked up on this at the last proof stage, but in all the turmoil of going to press, I didn’t.
Goodbye 2011
16 November 2011.
Doesn’t time go quickly? By the time you read this, we will be heading into the Christmas and the New Year. I don’t know where this year has gone and it only seems like yesterday that I finally managed to get access to my ‘scooter shed’ after it became completely inaccessible in one of the worst (and coldest) winters I have ever seen. The experts reckon that it will be just as bad this winter, but I certainly hope not.
No apologies
21 September 2011.
The contents of this issue are tinged with sadness and I make no apology within these pages for mourning those who are no longer with us.
The scooter influence
20 July 2011.
I happened to be in York recently, shopping with the missus – although this time around it was me who seemed to be doing all the spending. Wherever you go, you can’t seem to escape the scooter influence. Walking past a fashion boutique shop window, virtually next to the Jorvik Centre, there was a Series 1 Lambretta (complete with mannequin) being used as part of the window display. The scooter’s not going anywhere, though – not without pumping up the rear tyre!
The sands of time
18 May 2011.
Time moves on. 10 years ago, regular club meets consisted of scooter talk: Where to go. What to ride. How to repair it. Nothing else mattered. Times have changed and so has the conversation. Scooter talk has been replaced with ‘I’ve got arthritis in my joints’, ‘my back’s giving me gyp’ and ‘I’ve got my varicose vein op this week’ (yes, you know who you are!).
It’s that time of the year!
16 March 2011.
As I’m writing this, it looks as though spring has finally arrived. The birds are singing, the sun is shining – could winter finally be over? It certainly looks as though it’s almost time to get your scooter out of the shed after the long, hard winter.
Happy New Year!
19 January 2011.
Yes, I know that the cover strapline says this is the February/March issue, but this edition was actually printed at the beginning of January, so I can justify myself saying it!
Time marches on
17 November 2010.
The Bridlington Rally and the changing of the UK clocks to winter time signal the end of the season. However, all is not lost for those who still need their regular scooter fix, as there are several events and parts fairs still to take place in the run-up to Christmas. So you needn’t despair, there’s still plenty going on to tide you over until next season.
We all have to make sacrifices
15 September 2010.
There's one thing that I’ve noticed about being a magazine editor and it’s that you have to make difficult decisions at times. This issue of CSS is a case in point and with the season being at its height and with our Isle of Wight feature taking up a humongous proportion of space, there are several articles that I have had to hold over. So, if you were expecting to see your related feature in this issue, I can only apologise and say that I will publish it as soon as possible.
We are family
21 July 2010.
Over the years I’ve attended many funerals and seen many sights. But the respect shown to a fellow scooter club member at his recent funeral brought home to me just how close-knit and passionate scooterists can be.
