Advertising 1955 style
By: Web Editor
Hi Mau,
I thought you might be interested to see how scooters were advertised in 1955. I worked at Sun Cycle Fittings in Aston, Birmingham at the age of 16 and was asked to model the brand new scooter it had just manufactured, called the GENI. It went in all the papers and scooter magazines and I still have the original poster, but it is rather dilapidated now!
When I was 22, my husband and I were proud owners of a 250cc twin Dayton Albatross. It was bright red in colour and we were classed as mods (LOL). I cannot believe now that we used to ride everywhere with no crash helmets on and a cigarette in one hand, clinging on for dear life with the other hand!
I am so pleased to see interest in scooters being revived; it’s a very economical and safe way of getting around.
